Hopefully you didn’t miss today…Today was soooo exciting!!   First off there was an ambulance that swung around Rio Salado and onto the bridge right about when we were going over the bridge. In the middle of the bridge there was a firetruck, police and another ambulance.  We caught a glimpse of a naked guy face down on the ground in cuffs as we rode by.  lol  Then on when going down Oak heading out there was a nice big landscaping trailer going fast but not fast enough to get behind.  Justin grabbed on and got away but then hit the light on Thomas.  There was a Ben-Horin sighting sporting a nice bug catcher.  Joe DeMars was finally denied on taking all the hills on hill 3, which was a huge relief to us all!!  He still killed us on hill 5.
There was a fast breakaway that started right off the get go when coming back.  Chuck and his daughter Lily were on the tandem going mach 5 along with two other riders when a little SUV going mach 5 tried to go around the roundabout at the same time as they were.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tandem slow down so fast, defied the laws of physics….really. No one got hurt, no one went down, just the evil eye from the driver.
On the sprint Aaron and Durrant were out front just far enough to get behind a huge truck.  Aaron’s yelling for Durrant to catch it took all of his energy and Durrant caught it and went around to take the sprint.  No chairs and tables outside at Starbucks, employee took the keys home. We sat inside at the big table for once. Hoss made the shot indoors!!!

Janet gave us a great tribute to the donkey at Starbucks!!!
Great ride today.. one flat, no crashes.  We had a single speed ( no I don’t know if she was single), and a mtn bike join us.  Justin is nearly unstoppable.  Bingam shared a great photo of Noel and Vato at the budda.  The Tour de France rolls on. Hossed missed the shot.

Joe DeMars was putting on a clinic today winning the first 4 hills then Gabe spoiled his shenanigans by taking Hill 5.

With the Triple Crown safe we headed back.  That’s where a little controversy begins.

After riding down Galvin Parkway we stopped for the light at Van Buren.  When traffic cleared we proceeded.  That’s when Brett sprinted ahead grabbing the draft of a Phoenix city bus.  It was actually pretty funny seeing him drafting the bus and slowly pulling away from the group.  Brett built a nice little gap.

But the bus only took him a half mile or so then pulled off.  I thought for certain we’d catch him before Mill.  Except for the light.

Brett’s timing was perfect.  He hit the light at Mill/Curry with green turning to yellow, slipped through with a gap and left the rest of us stopped at the Red.

The controversy?

There was some, not a lot, but some discussion surrounding the use of the city bus as an aid to his sprint win.  Most of that discussion though was from Aaron who was “best of the rest” and was looking to get himself a win.

But as Joe DeMars noted, any one of use could’ve done the same.  So with no real outcry of abuse it appears Brett’s Sprint victory remains intact.

Hoss made the shot, after more than one, two, three, well….

It was Friday lite at Hoss’ place but we picked up riders along the way.  By the time we were rolling up 56th St. towards Camelback we were about 30 strong.  Great to see Chuck out on the tandem with Cameron and they even mixed it up on the sprint on Mill.

It was the Clint and Joe show today with those two winning the hills but GC took the sprint.
